Staff Spotlight: Kristine!
I grew up in Elizabethtown.
How did you get involved with Tabor?
I was fortunate enough to fulfill my dream of being a flight attendant, but was in a very bad car accident and had to change positions with the airline so I started working in Human Resources! I was laid off due to corporate restructure and downsizing and felt a calling to search for a job where I could help others! I was hired at Tabor in 1995 as a Credit Counselor, in CCCS, which is now called the BFEC division.
What do you like most about working at Tabor?
The work and relationships I have with residents in affordable housing apartment complexes, and the camaraderie among Tabor employees!
What is most rewarding about your job; what makes it all worthwhile?
Seeing people enjoying their homes and community, and also helping them meet their needs/goals.
What’s one moment that stood out to you?
A resident was referred to me by the property manager in the last year for a hoarding situation, since the complex was due for inspection! He had been living in his apartment for about 2 years and still had most of his things in boxes stacked overtop of furniture just packed in without much room to walk. I helped him for several days to dust, sort through and also dispose of items, display sentimental things, and organize important things. He said he had just been too overwhelmed after having to abruptly move out of his previous home! He was very emotional since his family situation was very traumatic to him, which is why he felt like all he had was his possessions. It really struck me when he said, he had never felt at home in his apartment until after we had gotten most of his things cleaned, and organized, but he just hadn’t felt like he could do it on his own, and had no one to ask for help!
Where is the best place you've traveled to and why? Costa Rica - The people there are so hospitable, the animals amazing, the beautiful environment, and all the food is kept natural/organic.
What's your favorite book/movie/tv show?
It's a Wonderful Life is my favorite movie and my husband's as well! It actually has been a staple to our relationship since when we were dating and found out it was each other's favorite movie! We remind each other that it is truly a wonderful life and "No Man is a failure...who has friends!"
"All Things Are Possible with God."
