Remembering Grace Wenger, Tabor's Founder

Through her passionate interweaving of deep faith with a life of service and a desire to build and strengthen community, Grace Wenger was the founding force behind Tabor Community Services. Grace’s was a life of service and of faith. A devout Mennonite, writer, and teacher, Grace taught at Lancaster Mennonite High School and Millersville University. In 1967, Grace organized members of the Mennonite community to establish the Menno-Housing Corporation, working to renovate city housing into rentals for low-income families, many of whom had been victims of racial discrimination in housing. Tabor receives GIANT grocery gift cards donation for families experiencing homelessness

Tabor Community Services announced GIANT Food Stores’ donation of ten $100 gift cards for participants in Tabor’s TLC program, which serves individuals, couples, and families experiencing homelessness. TLC’s Bridging Homelessness to Housing program helps participants move from homelessness to housing stability and self-sufficiency. The program provides interim housing and supportive services for over 250 individuals annually at its 52-unit facility in downtown Lancaster. Special programming is provided for veterans, citizens returning from incarceration, and families needing emergency shelter. Program Spotlight - Matched Savings for Tomorrow Program

Matched Savings for Tomorrow (MST), a program of Tabor Community Services, is designed to assist low to moderate income individuals or households to acquire a productive asset through regular savings. The MST program will match participants’ savings at a rate of $2 dollars for every $1 saved, up to a maximum match of $2000. Participants may save for any of the following purposes. 1) Down payment or closing costs for buying a home 2) Post-secondary education for self or child 3) Business start-up costs 4) Purchase of a vehicle to travel to work. With last year's fiscal year ending and a new one beginning, our management team has necessarily focused in recent weeks on our operating budget as an organization – both our revenue and expenses. I am pleased to report we ended 2016 – 17 in the black as we have consistently done in past years, and prospects for the 2017–18 budget look good.
