In The News"Green Festival set at Eastern Market"Wednesday, October 14, 2009 Eastern Market and LOVE green will co-sponsor Green Festival, A Harvest of Sustainable Skills from 9 a.m. to 2p.m. at the market, 308 E. King St. The event on the final market day of the season will offer free sustainable skills workshops, an arts and crafts fair, movie screenings, live entertainment and fresh local produce and prepared foods. Doug Smith, market Manager, "We can't expect sustainability without giving people the skills and knowledge to get there." The free workshops will include bicycle maintenance, rain barrel water collection, seed saving, paper making, altered clothing, green cleaning products and square foot gardening and raised beds. Organizers will show "In Transition 1.0," a film documentary about communities that are striving to reduce their dependence on oil, and "Buy Fresh, Buy Local, By Lancaster fields, homes and markets. Film screenings will be followed by short discussions. Bon Accord and Lonesome Stragglers will provide folk music.
