2013 Announcements

  • Two Position Openings For Coordinated Assessment (CHART) Workers

    Position Description
    Tabor Community Services is seeking two full-time assessment workers for a new County-wide homeless services coordinated assessment system which is now known as CHART - Community Homeless Assessment and Referral Team.

    The Lancaster County Coalition to End Homelessness (LCCEH) has selected and contracted with Tabor to establish and operate this new system in Lancaster County to provide standardized and coordinated assessment and referral services for everyone who is seeking services from the local network of homeless services providers.

    The CHART Workers, who report to the CHART Manager, will provide professional direct customer/client service for everyone who is referred to or seeking services from the CHART System. CHART Workers will be responsible to:

    * Conduct initial screenings for those who walk in or choose not to use the 2-1-1 Call Center
    * Conduct standardized in-depth assessments for all those referred by the initial screening process
    * Make appropriate referrals to programs and services as determined by the assessment
    * Enter all data and information from initial screenings (when needed), assessments, and referrals into HMIS, the Homeless Management Information System.
    * Provide short-term case management services as needed for those who are being diverted from entering shelter

    Qualifications
    * Associate's degree in social work or related field; bachelor's degree in social work or a related field strongly preferred
    * Preference given to applicants with a year or more of case management experience
    * A valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle are required
    * Ability to write and communicate professionally in English
    * Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
    * Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients, staff of other agencies, and the general public
    * Training and/or experience in mediation and problem solving helpful
    * Well developed interviewing and assessment skills desired
    * Experience using client management information systems in human services helpful
    * Knowledge of and experience in the homeless services field desired
    * Sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of populations to be served

    Please join us to celebrate another year of supportive service to women leaving prison and reuniting with their families. Through our program, women learn positive parenting, life skills, and financial responsibility through schooling & employment, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve responsible lives. Christian faith is at the core of Beth Shalom's guiding principles and objectives.

  • Save the Date! April Concert Announced

    The Franklin & Marshall College Chamber Singers and members of the Lancaster Symphony Chorus will present a choral concert benefiting Tabor Community Services on Sunday, April 7th at 3 pm.

    The concert will be held in the stately auditorium of Grace Baptist Church--1899 Marietta Dr. in Lancaster. No tickets are required. A goodwill donation will be taken, going toward Tabor's work to strengthen the bonds of community here in Lancaster.

    Enjoy music from a wide range of musical styles, composed by Theodore Wiprud, John Rutter, Randall Thompson, Leonard Bernstein, Gregorio Allegri, Jester Hairston, and others as performed by The Franklin & Marshall College Chamber Singers and Lancaster Symphony Chorus.

    Concert will be conducted by Dr. William Wright, faculty member in the music department at Franklin & Marshall and the Lancaster Symphony Chorusmaster and Staff Conductor and will benefit Tabor Community Services of Lancaster County, a non-profit provider of housing and counseling services to Lancaster County residents.   • Call for Interns!

    Our Consumer Credit Counseling and Mortgage Counseling department is in need of a 12hr/wk volunteer to help with computer work and data entry. This is a great opportunity for college students to get direct experience in the credit counseling field. Those interested should email Lowell Jantzi, ljantzi@tabornet.org for more information on the position.

  • You Are Invited to Tabor's 45th Annual Fundraising Banquet

    Please join us in DoubleTree’s beautiful Palm Court for our 45th Annual Banquet and a special tribute to Tabor’s principal founder, A. Grace Wenger, who passed last year at the age of 93.

    We welcome back Anne Shannon to emcee the evening as we review accomplishments and honor the achievements of our clients and the contributions of our partners and staff.

    The Poor Richards A Cappella group of F&M will serenade guests and the silent auction will be open through dinner. A goodwill offering will be taken. All proceeds go to serving clients in need of housing and financial solutions.

  • Home Sales Fundraiser

    Know anyone who wants to buy or sell a home?

    Have 25% of the realtor's proceeds go to Tabor!

    Tim Charles is celebrating his 10th year as a housing case manager at Tabor and has assisted many Tabor clients on their journey to homeownership. He is now part time at Tabor and is also a realtor. Anyone who works with Tim to buy or sell a home in 2013, can choose Tabor to receive 25% of Tim's proceeds from the sale.
    If you know someone who wants to buy or sell a home this year, have them contact Tim and designate Tabor to receive the 25% donation.

  • Tabor Receives Envision Award!

    Tabor recently received an Envision Lancaster County award from the County Commissioners and the County Planning Commission for the work we've done designing and constructing the plaza in front of our office and renovating and repainting the exterior of the Eastern Market.

  • Attention Knitters and Crocheters!

    We would like to start up a prayer shawl ministry at Beth Shalom. We already have someone who offered to donate all the supplies! Now, we just need to find someone who can teach the women here how to knit or crochet. If you know of anyone or if you would like to teach the ladies how to knit or crochet, let us know!   • Bible Study Leaders Needed at Beth Shalom

    We are in immediate need of one or two volunteers to lead Monday evening bible studies for Beth Shalom participants. The bible studies are the 1st and 3rd Monday each month from 5pm to 6pm at Tabor's main office (308 E. King St.)

  • Fulton Bank Supports Veterans Victory House at TLC

    The Letter of Credit Group from Fulton Bank held a fund raiser for the Veterans Victory House at TLC. Bank employees who made a donation of $5.00 or more got the privilege of wearing jeans to work for a day, and with it the knowledge that they are supporting Veterans on the path to self-sufficiency in Lancaster. Fittingly, the event was held on November 9th, in honor of Veteran’s day, and over 130 employees participated! Thanks very much to Fulton Bank and their continued support of our programs!

  • Volunteer Needed for Street Outreach

    We are looking for energetic individuals to assist with street outreach to the homeless. You will work alongside the County’s Homeless Outreach Worker, meeting folks where they are, engage with them, and assisting in referrals to appropriate services.   • Give Extraordinarily Today!

    There is still time to donate to Tabor through the Extraordinary Give! The 24 hr. event started at 12 am and is happening all day today, closing at midnight tonight. The event is coordinated by the Lancaster County Community Foundation, who will be ‘stretching’ all donations made today by their own $250,000 grant to be distributed to the participating organizations--so the more you donate, the farther it will go!

    All donations are tax-deductible and can be made online with a credit card. Tell friends and family that you are giving extraordinarily today and encourage them to do the same!
