Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Central Pennsylvania

Debt problems?

Each year thousands of people confront money problems, which may arise from loss of a job, lack of money management, or overuse of credit. Families from all walks of life, income levels, and financial issues come to Consumer Credit Counseling Services(CCCS) for help. CCCS of Central Pennsylvania is part of a network of over 170 non-profit organizations throughout the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico dedicated to helping individuals find their way back to financial health. Nationally, we are represented by our trade association the National Foundation for Consumer Credit (NFCC).

CCCS offers three services to help families get control of their finances and free of financial worries.

Budget Counseling:
Tabor’s certified counselors first arrange an appointment to assess the families’ financial situation by reviewing their income and expenses. At the interview, a counselor will analyze personal financial data, such as monthly income, spending and saving patterns, and give advice on efficient money management methods. If needed, the counselor will develop a debt management plan to enable the client to repay creditors. From there, our counselors help the families stick to their goals and work toward financial stability.

Debt Management Program:
A DMP is short for a debt management plan. In the event that a DMP is possible and appropriate, CCCS will undertake to negotiate a restructured debt repayment plan with the client’s creditors. Based on the information provided in the initial interview, proposals are sent to each creditor explaining the situation and asking for cooperation in the orderly repayment of the debt. The client then sends a payment to CCCS each month for distribution to those creditors.

Budget Education:
CCCS is as concerned with preventing financial problems as it is with solving present issues. Many families that find themselves in financial debt have not formed healthy budgeting habits. CCCS seeks to improve families’ economic health by educating them on behavioral and financial aspects of financial management through seminars and individual counseling.
